case study

Ob Multimedia — a portfolio site for people who judge portfolios

Give a creative studio a website that could stand as a credential in its own right, since their prospective clients judge a creative agency substantially by its own site.

the problem

What needed solving

A creative agency's website is held to a higher standard than most: if the site is unremarkable, the portfolio inside it is read as unremarkable too. The work is also video-heavy, which makes the usual approach — embed everything and hope — a reliable way to produce a slow, awkward page.

the approach

How we solved it

A dark, motion-led site treating the studio's own work as the primary argument. Video and portfolio pieces are presented deliberately rather than embedded wholesale, with the visual treatment carrying the studio's positioning before a visitor reads a single line.

Motion-led identity

Gradient typography and animated treatments used to demonstrate capability, not decorate.

Portfolio structure

Work organised so a prospective client can find relevant examples quickly.

Video showcase

Video presented in a way that does not make the page slow to load.

Services presentation

Studio services laid out for clients scoping a project.

Dark visual system

A consistent dark treatment that lets colourful creative work carry the contrast.

what it does

  • Consistent dark visual system

the hard part

Challenges

The core tension was ambition against performance: an agency site is expected to look impressive, but heavy motion and video are exactly what makes sites slow. Effects were kept to where they earn attention, and media was handled carefully so the impression survives on a phone.

Measured outcomes

We don't publish performance figures for this project because analytics weren't in place from the start, and quoting numbers we can't substantiate would be worthless to you. The site is live and linked above — the most useful thing we can offer is that you go and judge it yourself.
